A woman with short brown hair, wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans, sitting on a large rock outdoors among pine trees and dry grass, smiling at the camera during daytime.

Meet Susan Corser

I follow multiple paths through my art, thinking about places past and present, hoping to remind the viewer of their own places and memories.  I focus on the movement I see in the subject, as well as the compositions created by abstract shapes in nature.  I look for patterns of light and shadow to create the artwork’s structure and meaning.  My intent as an artist is to create balance between opposing forces, between variety and continuity, darks and light, rhythm and melody.

My paintings also reflect a lifelong passion for the landscape, reflected by my work in landscape design and conservation. I have always been fascinated by places, both urban and rural, and attempt in my artwork to explore the underlying character of a place.  I see both the landscape and the arts as healing forces. While land conservation aims to preserve wholeness inherent in a particular landscape, the artist strives to balance the whole with the parts, mirroring the inner balancing act within ourselves.
